How we plan content

Content planning starts with the question every piece must answer: who is searching for this, what do they need, and what should they do next? We build a topic plan from keyword research, your sales team’s most common questions, competitor gaps and the commercial pages that need support.

Each topic is classified by intent. Commercial-intent pages such as service pages, comparisons and pricing explainers usually come first because they drive enquiries. Informational guides follow, chosen because they attract the right audience and pass authority to commercial pages through internal links. Our content strategy service goes deeper on planning.

02

Briefs and research

Every piece starts with a brief. We analyse the pages currently ranking, note what they cover and what they miss, gather the questions searchers ask, and outline a structure that serves the reader better. The brief also records the primary and secondary keywords, target length, internal links, calls to action and the expert we need to speak to.

Briefs are where most of the quality comes from. A writer with a good brief and twenty minutes with your expert will produce better content than a talented writer working from a keyword alone.

On-page optimisation

Before anything is published, we optimise it: a title tag and meta description written to earn the click, a single clear H1 with a logical heading structure, the primary keyword used naturally early on, descriptive image alt text, schema where appropriate, and a clean URL. You can check keyword usage in any draft with our free keyword density checker, though we care far more about covering the topic well than hitting a percentage.

04

Internal linking

Internal links are one of the most underused SEO levers. Each new piece links to the relevant commercial pages using descriptive anchor text, and we update older pages to link to the new one. Over time this builds topic clusters where guides support service pages and service pages support each other, making it clear to Google which pages are most important.

E-E-A-T and author signals

Google’s quality rater guidelines describe experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust (E-E-A-T) as signs of quality content. They are not a direct ranking factor, but the things that demonstrate them — first-hand experience, accurate information, clear authorship and sources — make content more useful and more likely to rank.

  • Interviews with your experts so the content contains knowledge competitors cannot copy
  • Named authors with relevant credentials and author pages
  • Original examples, photos and data from your own work
  • Sources cited for facts and statistics
  • Regular reviews so information stays accurate

We do not publish unedited AI output. We may use tools for research and outlining, but every piece is written or rewritten and fact-checked by a person. Our AI SEO guide sets out where AI tools help with SEO and where they do not.

06

Content refresh

Updating existing content is often the quickest content win. Pages that used to rank have history and links; they just need to be brought up to date. We identify pages that have lost traffic, work out why, and decide whether to refresh, consolidate with another page or redirect. Our content refresh framework explains the process.

Content types we write

  • Service pages that explain what you do, for whom, how and at what cost
  • Category and collection copy for ecommerce stores
  • Location pages with genuinely local information
  • Comparison and alternatives pages for buyers choosing between options
  • In-depth guides and explainers for research-stage searches
  • Pricing explainers and FAQ pages
  • Case studies and customer stories, when results are real and approved

Each type has a different job. Service and category pages need to convert; guides need to attract and educate, then pass readers and authority to commercial pages. We plan the mix so content supports revenue rather than just traffic.

08

Our editorial process

Every piece goes through the same stages: brief, expert input, draft, edit, fact-check, optimisation and approval. The editor checks that the piece answers the brief, reads naturally, is accurate and is better than what currently ranks. Facts and statistics are checked against their original sources, and anything we cannot verify is removed rather than left vague.

You approve the brief before writing starts and the draft before publishing, so there are no surprises. Most pieces need one round of feedback; we include two.

Measuring content performance

Content is measured against the job it was given. For commercial pages that means enquiries, calls or sales. For guides it means rankings for target terms, qualified visitors and how often readers move on to commercial pages. We review performance at one, three and six months after publishing and flag pieces that need a refresh, a stronger internal link or a different angle.

This is also how we learn what works for your audience, so each month’s content plan is better informed than the last. See how content fits into our wider SEO services.

10

Keyword research services

Keyword research is where every content plan starts. We gather search terms from keyword tools, Search Console, competitor pages, your site search, sales calls and customer emails, then group them by topic and intent. Each group is scored on search demand, business value, how hard it would be to rank and whether you already have a page that should target it.

The result is a keyword-to-page map: a single list showing which page targets which group of searches, which pages need creating, and which existing pages compete with each other and should be merged. It prevents the most common content mistake — publishing several similar articles that split rankings between them. Keyword research is also available as a standalone keyword research service.

Writing for search and AI answers

Search results now include AI-generated summaries, and many people ask AI assistants the questions they used to type into Google. Content that is clearly structured, answers questions directly, uses headings that match the questions people ask and contains specific, verifiable information is easier for both search engines and AI systems to understand and cite. We write with that in mind — a direct answer early, detail and evidence below, and clear structure throughout — without sacrificing readability for the people who actually buy from you. Our guide on how to rank in AI Overviews shows that structure in detail.

12

Content for regulated and specialist industries

Some sectors need extra care. Legal, healthcare, dental and financial content must be accurate, avoid misleading claims and respect professional rules. We write with your qualified experts and have them review every piece before publishing. See our pages on SEO for law firms, SEO for dentists and SEO for accountants for sector-specific detail.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Need something more specific? Ask a strategist

01How much do SEO content writing services cost?

Individual SEO articles of 1,500 words or more start from £180, including research, brief, writing and on-page optimisation. Ongoing content production is included in our Growth plan from £700 per month. Prices exclude VAT.

02Do you use AI to write content?

We may use AI tools for research and outlining, but every piece is written or rewritten, edited and fact-checked by a person, with input from your experts.

03How long should SEO content be?

As long as it needs to be to answer the query well. We set a target length in each brief based on the ranking pages and the topic, but we never pad content to hit a word count.

04Do you offer keyword research services?

Yes. Keyword research is part of every content plan and is also available on its own.

05Can you write in our brand voice?

Yes. We build a short voice guide during onboarding and use it for every piece. You approve the first few pieces before we scale up.

06Do you upload content to our website?

We can publish directly to WordPress, Shopify and most CMS platforms, including formatting, images and metadata.

07What is content marketing and how is it different?

Content marketing is the wider practice of using content to attract and convert customers, including distribution and email. SEO content writing focuses on content that ranks in search. Our content marketing service covers both.

08Who owns the content you write?

You do. Once paid for, all content, briefs and research belong to you, and you can use, edit or republish them however you like.

09How quickly can you produce content?

After onboarding, most articles take two to three weeks from approved brief to publish-ready draft, including expert input and your review. Larger programmes run on a monthly production schedule.

10Can you refresh our existing content?

Yes. Refreshing pages that have lost rankings is often the fastest content win. We review performance, update information, improve structure and internal links, and merge or redirect pages that compete with each other.

11Do you write content for local businesses?

Yes. For local businesses we focus on service pages, location pages and answers to the questions local customers ask, written with genuine detail about the areas you serve rather than swapped place names.
