Local SEO is the work of making your business the obvious choice when someone nearby searches for what you do. Google shows two sets of results for these searches: the map pack, drawn from Google Business Profiles, and the organic results underneath, drawn from websites. Google has said publicly that local rankings are based mainly on three factors — relevance, distance and prominence — and local SEO is about strengthening the two you can influence: relevance and prominence.
It works because the intent is so strong. Someone searching "boiler repair Headingley" or "family solicitor Leeds" usually needs the service soon and is choosing between the handful of businesses Google shows them. Being one of those three map results, with good reviews and a clear profile, often produces more calls than any amount of general brand marketing. For Leeds businesses competing across a city of several hundred thousand people plus the surrounding towns, visibility in those results is often the difference between a full diary and a quiet one.
Your Google Business Profile is the single most important local ranking asset you own, and most profiles are left half finished. We audit and rebuild it around how customers actually search, starting with the primary category, which has an outsized effect on which searches you appear for.
We also watch for the unglamorous problems: duplicate listings, unwanted edits suggested by the public, and keyword-stuffed business names on competitor profiles, which can be reported through Google’s official channels.
Review count, rating and recency influence both rankings and whether a searcher picks you. We set up a straightforward process for asking every satisfied customer for a review at the right moment, usually by text or email with a direct link, and we draft responses for you to approve so every review gets a thoughtful reply.
We never buy, incentivise or fabricate reviews. Fake reviews breach Google’s policies, and in the UK the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 makes publishing or commissioning fake reviews an unfair commercial practice. Genuine reviews take longer, but they are the only kind that last.
Citations are mentions of your business name, address and phone number (NAP) on other websites: directories such as Yell, Thomson Local and Bing Places, industry bodies, and local chambers. Consistent citations reassure Google that your business details are accurate. Inconsistent ones — an old address, a different phone number, a previous trading name — create doubt.
We audit existing citations, correct the ones that matter, and add a focused set of high-quality UK and industry listings. We do not mass-submit to hundreds of low-value directories; that adds cost without adding trust.
If you serve several towns, a page for each area can help — but only if each page is genuinely useful. Google treats near-identical pages with only the town name swapped as doorway pages, which can hurt the whole site. Our location pages include specific information for each area: the jobs you have done there, travel and response times, local regulations or considerations, and FAQs that people in that area actually ask.
For businesses across West Yorkshire, that might mean separate, genuinely different pages for Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Harrogate. You can see how we approach this on our own SEO agency Yorkshire page.
Local SEO works for any business whose customers search with local intent. We have built specific approaches for sectors where local search drives most new business:
Trades, clinics, salons, estate agents, restaurants and professional services all follow the same principles with different details.
If you have several branches, clinics or offices, each location needs its own visibility. That means a separate, verified Google Business Profile for every genuine location, a dedicated location page on your website for each one, and reviews and citations built location by location rather than pooled under a head office.
The structure matters. A clear locations hub that links to every branch page, consistent naming, and location pages that link back to the relevant service pages help Google understand how your business fits together. We also make sure each profile links to its own location page rather than the homepage, which is one of the most common and easily fixed mistakes we see.
Reporting is split by location too, so you can see which branches are winning in the map pack and which need more attention, rather than one blended number that hides the problem.
Most of these can be fixed in the first month, which is why local SEO often shows results faster than other kinds of SEO. Our local SEO checklist sets out the full list as a four-week plan.
More local searches now happen through voice assistants and AI-generated answers, which often draw on the same sources as the map pack: Business Profile data, reviews, and consistent information across the web. Clear, accurate business details, a well-structured website with LocalBusiness structured data, and pages that answer common questions directly all make it easier for these systems to recommend you. Good local SEO and visibility in AI-assisted search are, for now, largely the same work. Our guide on how to rank in AI Overviews explains when they appear for local searches.

Choose ScaleWe track the numbers that show whether local search is bringing in business: calls and direction requests from your Business Profile, website enquiries from local organic traffic, and map-pack rankings measured across a grid of points in your service area rather than from a single location. Results case studies will be published on our case studies page once client baselines and permissions are in place.
Local SEO for a single location usually fits our Starter plan from £300 per month. Multi-location businesses and competitive sectors usually need the Growth plan from £700 per month. Prices exclude VAT.
Profile fixes can change visibility within a few weeks. Building review volume and local authority to compete for the map pack in a competitive sector usually takes three to six months.
To appear in the map pack you need a real, verifiable business location or a service area. Google does not allow virtual offices or addresses you do not operate from, and we will not create them. Service-area businesses can hide their address and still rank.
We can only report reviews that break Google’s policies, such as spam, conflicts of interest or offensive content. For genuine negative reviews, a calm, helpful public response often reassures future customers more than a perfect rating would.
Yes. Our local SEO packages map to the Starter and Growth plans on our pricing page, with the monthly mix of profile, review, citation and page work adjusted to your market.
Local SEO focuses on searches with local intent and adds the Google Business Profile, reviews and citations to normal SEO work. Most local businesses need both: the map pack and the organic results below it.
Yes. We work with local businesses across Yorkshire and the rest of the UK. The process is the same; the competitor research and local content are specific to your area.
